PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The bridge will be part of a road network that will connect Kasomeno town in Katanga Province of DRC to Mwenda in Luapula Province of Zambia to boost economic trade links in DRC and Zambia, and to create a more efficient trade route for commercial traffic from Katanga province of DRC to the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
The project scope involves a three-span cable-stayed bridge spanning the Luapula River. The main span structure features a support arrangement of 88.00 m + 184.00 m, + 88.00 m, with a 1 m cantilever at each end, for a total length of 362 m.
The main girder is a single-cell steel box girder, with an orthotropic continuous steel deck. Two A-shaped steel pylons are installed, with their tops 50 m from the deck. Seven pairs of adjustable double-ended fork-lug cables are symmetrically arranged on either side of each pylon.
The substructure consists of two abutments and two intermediate piers. Both the abutments and piers are made of reinforced concrete with shallow foundations underneath.
